RUI - our favourite female designers

RUI was founded by Chinese-born designer Rui Zhou in 2019, a brand which is in constant study of the beauty of imperfection. Powered by Rui's fragility and affection, the brand shows it's strength within the most delicate of materials and has become a must-watch new talent. RUI uses the Japanese wabi-sabi aesthetic as a base throughout all her asymmetric semi-sheer knitwear pieces, which are laced with precious micro-beads. Each piece is meaningful and personal to Rui and speaks to her own upbringing as a Chinese immigrant in New YorK City.

AHLUWALIA

Ahluwalia SS23 - Best female designers 2023

LVMH Prize winning label, Ahluwalia, brain child of Priya Ahluwalia, explores design through a multi-cultural lens through Priya's Nigerian-Indian heritage and London upbringing. The brand was founded in 2018 with an eco-conscious intention of creating product through up-cycling and using deadstock textiles, and has since become one of the most exciting brands challenging the status quo by continuing to innovate sustainable approaches into her collections.

Sourced from vintage materials, (making each piece truly unique) the brand has become known for its mismatched patterns and juxtaposing panel combinations. A modern twist on 90s nostalgia.

AGR Knit ss23 - one of our favourite female designers of 2023

AGR is a London based brand recontextualising and giving a whole new energy to British knitwear. Founded in 2019 by Alicia Robinson, the brand quickly gained attention dominated the knitwear space with its playful designs and unapologetically vivid colour schemes. The brand is inspired by the multi-cultural frenzy of London and the populations endless mix of energy. Alicia and her team continue to prove that its possible to produce product sustainability and also how to make it look amazing.

MOWALOLA

Mowalola - One of the best female designers of 2023

Central Saint Martins graduate and newly appointed Yeezy Gap design director, Mowalola Ogunlesi produces hypnotic clothes for the neo-psychedelia world she wants to live in. The designer has become known for merging parts of her Nigerian heritage with a 1980's style hypnotic trip. Her mind expanding designs are impossible-to-ignore, and boast a mix of maximalist glam with retro-futuristic tomboy. The brand manages to bridge the gap between sportswear and detail orientated couture in a beautiful and seamless way.
